It looks like football player/reality show star Ocho Cinco already has one of the most highly-anticipated devices of the year, as he has been tweeting photos of the upcoming Motorola Xoom Android tablet.
In a few tweets which have been removed, Ocho Cinco said the Motorola Xoom Android tablet is really nice and that Motorola will not be getting back this unit. His website shows that the handset maker sponsors him to promote the MotoBlur UI.
Ocho Cinco was given the Motorola Xoom Android Honeycomb tablet as he’s gearing up for the Super Bowl and we’re expecting a big advertisement during the Big Game for the Apple iPad competitor. This should be the first real high-profile tablet commercial we’ve seen outside of the iPad.
More importantly than the perks of being Ocho Cinco, the football player having one of these devices means that it might be close to launching. CEO Sanjay Jha has already said that we can expect this to land by at least late February, so maybe we can expect it to hit stores even sooner.
With a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, multiple cameras, high-resolution 10-inch touchscreen and a wealth of connectivity options, the Motorola Xoom tablet looks like it will be a hot gadget. Just as important as the specs, it will feature the version of Android which is optimized for larger screens.
In our Android 3.0 Honeycomb preview, we saw that it will be easier to load your home screens with apps and customized widgets. We only played with the emulator though, so much, much more will be revealed at a Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb event tomorrow.
So, the release should soon be upon us but it’s looking like the pricing may be on the high side. Yes, it will be comparable to 3G versions of the iPad with similar storage but at least the Apple product has the option of the $499 entry price.
