Shorthand Mobile brings its SMS-based mobile browser to India; Partners with SMS GupShup for Asia

Mobile startup Shorthand Mobile announced the launch of its SMS-based mobile browser with access to SMS GupShup in India. SMS GupShup is the country’s largest social network and we’ve already covered few times in the past.

With smartphone penetration still low in India, SMS remains the only way to reach the Indian mass market. The Shorthand SMS Browser enables even the simplest of the feature phones to access content using only SMS.

By using Shorthand, users can access SMS GupShup and other websites without the need to memorize short-codes and complex SMS keywords. The browser offers easy to use menus, allowing for seamless scroll-and-click to get targeted information, content and services. In addition to social networking, Shorthand offers access to news, sports, astrology, local search, ticket purchase, job search and more.

Shorthand relied on GupShup’s AppShup open platform to bring its browser to the ever-growing GupShup community which goes beyond the borders of India…
