We all know that the Apple iOS 4.3 will land sooner rather than later but a new rumor suggests that it may ruin a few Valentine’s Day plans with a Feb. 14 release at 10 a.m. PST.
The iOS 4.3 rumor comes from MacStories, which is citing unnamed sources for the release date. The latest iPhone/iPad software is supposed to add a multitude of features.
One of the coolest features of iOS 4.3 is the ability for third-party developers to add in AirPlay support. This will enable a video app maker, for example, to have that content stream over the air to an Apple TV connected to a big-screen television.
The Verizon iPhone has the ability for the device to create a mobile hotspot for other devices and many are expecting this to come with the 4.3 software. Even if the AT&T iPhone gets this in the software, it will still be up to the carrier to support this (and likely charge for it).
Another thing that has long been rumored for iOS 4.3 is the ability for publishers to have a subscription service through the App Store. The Daily just launched earlier this week and it had the first two weeks free thanks to a sponsorship from Verizon and the subscription feature is expected to kick in after that. That two-week time frame lines up nicely with the Feb. 14 rumor.
Developers have dug through the beta versions and found some multitouch gesture controls which could eventually eliminate the need for a home button. Apple has explicitly said that it is just seeking developer feedback on this and that the gesture controls will be stripped out once this software hits consumers.
Much of the IntoMobile team will be at Mobile World Congress during that time but you can be sure that we’ll give you up-to-the-minute news on the latest Apple software.
