VERIZON WIRELESS HAS RECORD SALES ON FIRST DAY OF iPHONE 4

Available to General Public on Feb.10

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – At 8:10 p.m. EST yesterday, Verizon Wireless ceased online orders of iPhone 4 to existing customers and ended the most successful first day sales in the history of the company.

“This was an exciting day,” said Dan Mead, president and chief executive officer for Verizon Wireless. “In just our first two hours, we had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history. And, when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story. It is gratifying to know that our customers responded so enthusiastically to this exclusive offer — designed to reward them for their loyalty.

“I am proud of our employees who worked tirelessly to strengthen and scale our systems, enabling unprecedented customer orders through our website. Overall, it was a very good day,” he added.

Mead also said customers will have another opportunity at being among the nation’s first to own an iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network.

“Yesterday’s launch set the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone across America.”

The general market launch of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network will occur on February 10. The company will open its more than 2000 Verizon Wireless Stores at 7 a.m. It will also be available at all Apple store locations, Best Buy, select Wal-Mart stores, and on-line at verizonwireless.com and apple.com.

I’m still calling it hype. Comparing the iphone to any single android device, it always comes out on top. We all knew the iphone would sell more on launch day than the original droid or the Incredible or Droid X. Of course there are a considerable number of people ready to jump on a Verizon iphone, we knew this. I suspect 85% of the day’s sales were in the first two hours and the total number sold is 1/4 of what ATT sold on the first day of their iphone 4 launch. I think that the demand is now satisfied for the most part and don’t think for a second they ran out of stock, rather sales dwindled. It’s called a ‘take-away’ in sales parlance.

When it lands in stores next week (wait i thought it was sold out?), we’ll see more vague reports of record sales. Verizon broke up the launch to allow for different skewed comparisons.

    Brian,

It’s nice to see that your reading an comprehension skills are those of of 3rd grader. No where did the article state that Verizon ran out of iphones. Just to clarify it for you, verizon set aside “X Amount” of the iphones for pre-order for exsisting customers and they have also set aside “X Amount” of the iphones for new customers. Unless you have a crystal ball or can predict the future, how the hell do you know that this is your RIDUCLOS claim of “Take away” in the sales parlance? Are you trying to impress anyone here but yourself with that bunch of BS? How can sales be dwindling and they are plenty of people that I know for a fact, who were unable to place there pre-orders? Oh, I forgot; you own a crystal ball, so you alone know exactly what is going on. Do us all a favor and save your opnions to yourself and while you are at it, please raise you comprehension reading skills to at least the 12th grade level.
