Virgin Mobile isn’t necessarily known for having the best selection of smartphones, this much is true. However, that could change if the above picture turns out to materialize because it shows an Android phone with a 4.1-inch display, 1 GHz CPU and bells and whistles never seen on the small carrier before.
The specs of the mystery device seem somewhat impressive:
- 4.1 inch WVGA touchscreen
- 5 megapixel camera
- Android 2.2
- 3G/WiFi for data.
- Bluetooth
- HDMI out
- 1GHz Snapdragon processor (same as the EVO and Nexus One )
This device isn’t confirmed to hit Virgin Mobile as of yet, but the prepaid carrier is reportedly considering it. The specs look like what you expect from many Android phones today, but the HDMI port is pretty nice to see. Slap on a 5 megapixel camera and a 4.1 inch WVGA touchscreen, and you’ve got a smartphone that will get people interested.
For the carrier, it won’t be such a big deal if the handset ships with the same CPU as the EVO and Nexus One, as it still performs admirably today, but with the world moving to dual-core CPUs on phone, it may not be appealing to those seeking the cutting edge. Of course, those types of customers generally aren’t on Virgin Mobile.
The picture above was given at a survey from Virgin Mobile, which asked a series of questions and that is where the specs were found. If you’re a Virgin Mobile customer, reading the specs of this device may have sounded like a dream. Let’s hope it delivers the goods, as a failure to do so may annoy quite a bit of people.
Either way, it’s likely much cheaper to make a Nexus One or EVO than it was when they were released, so a handset that has similar specifications may not be out of the picture even if this handset doesn’t make it to market.
Virgin Mobile does have Android phones available, the Samsung Intercept and LG Optimus V, but this upcoming handset may steal the show.
We’ll be keeping you up to date as soon as any more information comes our way, so stay tuned!
