Like we don’t already have enough Android customization options available from handset and mobile software makers, some carriers want to put their signature on the user’s devices, too. Orange is one such carrier, which used the Mobile World Congress to announce Orange Gestures and “smart” Live Wallpapers.
The so called Orange Gestures, which will be available from Q2 2011, allows users to draw gestures on the homescreen and access to their favorite applications or services. For example, if Rachel texts her best friend Alison frequently, once a gesture is assigned to this action Rachel can draw a square, which launches a text to Alison. Alternatively, drawing a heart will automatically enable Bob to phone his wife, without having to access his address book.
As for the Live Wallpapers, the first such product will be launched in the second quarter, as well. Dubbed Orange Candles, it’s a photorealistic candle that burns down in six stages, giving a true indication of battery life. The design is also reactive, with the flame flickering as a user scrolls from left to right. Five more designs will be rolled out across Orange Android Signature (aka white-label) smartphones in 2011…
