Sprint is using its Twitter account to tease a new phone that will be announce Feb. 24. That’s right, we’ll have a new phone from Sprint in just a few days.
“What do you think the next new Sprint phone will be? Find out Thursday! #comebackfeb24,” Sprint said in its Twitter feed.
What will Sprint be revealing? To be honest, we’re not that sure what exactly it will be showing off. The last time the company teased a new device we got the somewhat-underwhelming Kyocera Echo.
We were at Mobile World Congress last week and the big theme of all the major halo devices is that these have a dual-core processor. The Optimus 3D and Galaxy S 2 were major launches and one of the big selling points is a dual-core processor.
I would hope that Sprint will ride this train and offer a dual-core processor. I think the Optimus 3D would perfectly fit with the Sprint lineup: it’s quirky and somewhat gimmicky but even if you never use the glasses=free 3D display, this is still a powerful smartphone that can go toe-to-toe with other top-of-the line devices.
That might be thinking too big though, as this is a relatively low-key tease for a new phone and I believe the Optimus 3D would be worthy of a major launch. For example, the Echo introduction was preceded by an invite about a month before the event and it included an underwater magic show with David Blaine.
For all we know, this could also be the BlackBerry Storm 3, which may not be as exciting to all. Of course, I’m sure there are a few die-hard BlackBerry fans on Sprint wouldn’t mind this coming out soon.
Whatever Sprint unveils later this week, you can be sure that the IntoMobile team will be giving you the latest news and updates.
