China hit 853 million subscribers last month, according to figures released by the country’s three major operators. The largest chunk goes to China Mobile, which cemented its “world’s largest mobile operator” title with its total mobile subscriber base rising to about 589.3 million in January, 22.6 million of which use 3G.
The second position goes to China Unicom and its 169.7 million subscribers, 15.5 million of which connect via 3G. Last but not the least, China Telecom’s customer base now counts about 94.1 million subscribers, including 13.6 million 3G users.
According to Wireless Intelligence, China will hit the 1 billion mobile subscribers at some point in Q2 2012. At that point, India — which is growing at a faster pace than China — will also hit the same figure.
Impressive, don’t you think?
