Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has cleared the FCC hurdle. Unfortunately this doesn’t mean the device is one step closer to launching in the U.S. as this is the European version that connects to 3G GSM network via 900 and 2100 MHz frequency bands. That said I’m not sure why the Swedish-Japanese company is continuing with the practice of certifying its non-U.S. phones through FCC. There’s gotta be some cost involved in preparing all the documents required to get the FCC seal of approval. Go figure.
Anyway, now that the Euro version is ready for the U.S. market (yeah, it does sound weird) we’re hoping the CDMA-based Xperia Play will follow shortly to eventually land on Verizon Wireless. That would definitely give boost to Sony Ericsson’s plans to “redefine mobile gaming.”
I’ve had only a brief moment to play with the so called PlayStation phone and I can tell it rocks even though I’m not a big gamer any more…
