XCom Global offers free mobile Internet to Japan relief workersWe were spending the last few days at the SXSW 2011 conference, so I’ve been a bit removed from the tragedies that are happening over in Japan. While we can only hope for the best at this point, it’s good to see the mobile industry doing what it can to help and today XCom Global said it will be offering free mobile Internet access to relief workers traveling to Japan.

If you’re not clear what XCom Global does, the company creates mobile hotspots that can work around the world. Think of it as the MiFi for the globe-trotting business traveler or, in this case, a relief worker heading to Japan.

“I was working in our Tokyo office when the earthquake hit. It was unlike anything I have ever experienced,” Seiji Nishimura, CEO, XCom Global. “The devastation in our country is heartbreaking. We appreciate all of the aid that is coming in from countries around the world. So much is done via the Internet now. If we can be of assistance by connecting the relief workers to information and each other, we are more than happy to do so.”
