New Tethering Tool for BlackBerry: Fixmo Extend

Fixmo Extend Desktop Client

Received a note from a good developer friend of mine this morning, letting me know about a new BlackBerry app (in Beta) from Fixmo. Called ‘Fixmo Extend’, this new app allows you to connect your laptop to the internet via your BlackBerry’s internet connection. From what I’ve read so far, it looks pretty neat.

Made up of two apps (a mobile and desktop client), Fixmo Extend makes it easy to not only use your wireless plan on your laptop, it also makes it quite easy to monitor usage. If data usage is a concern to you (it should be), easy to access charts and metrics help you stay on top of your usage to avoid those nasty overage charges… let’s face it, it’s a heck of a lot easier to rack up nasty charges on your wireless plan via your laptop.

Requirements:

  • BlackBerry (OS 4.6 and greater)
  • Windows PC (Windows XP or greater)
  • Microsoft .Net Framework (2.0 or greater)
  • BlackBerry Desktop Software (available from RIM)
  • A mini-USB cable to connect your laptop to your BlackBerry

The user interface is also quite simple and easy to use, and to get started all you need to do is download the beta mobile and desktop applications… both of which I’ve included below for your tethering enjoyment.
