Chinese handset makers are waking up with one of them, K-Touch, launching a device that not only looks good, but doesn’t “borrow” design from the major brands. The model we’re talking about is marked as W700 and it looks like a promising Android smartphone with specs that include NVidia’s Tegra2 dual-core processor, 3.8-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera on the back, VGA camera on the front, 512MB of RAM, and other “standard for Android” goodies like sensors, Bluetooth, memory card slot and so on.
The bad news is the price. Just because a Chinese company made the phone, it doesn’t mean it’s super cheap, at least not any more. This bad boy will retail for HK$4,200, which is about $540. Naturally that’s the off-contract price, but you’ll still need to use the W700 with China Unicom’s WO network (or hack your way out of it).
Nicely done K-Touch! Now push the price down, make the W700 available outside of China and we’ll love you even more. 😉
