Android apps coming to Windows through BlueStacks

You can find the Android OS virtually everything today, and that reach will only extend as time goes on. However, one place we have yet to see it implemented, at least implemented well, is the desktop computing space. Enter BlueStacks, which will allow you to run Android applications through Windows-based computers.

The idea may not be as crazy as it sounds, and having a large application selection from Android on a PC could be beneficial to a lot of people. BlueStacks is attempting to bring work and play together with their solution, and they look to be on the right track to do so. With support for Laptops or tablets, you’ll be able to navigate Android application with either a mouse, or a touchscreen.

Windows as a touchscreen OS is poorly done, and likely will remain that way until Windows 8 comes around. The idea of having Android applications on my TouchSmart TM2 makes me hate the computer a bit less, as BlueStacks would bring more value to a poorly made product. BlueStacks is essentially like the virtualization software Parallels for Android on Windows computers, allowing you to switch between the two operating systemswith ease. No dual-booting required.

A long-running project for getting Google’s mobile OS to run on x86 machines has failed to bring a solid product to the table, and from what we can see, BlueStacks may be miles ahead of said project. Even if you don’t think you’d use Android applications on your PC, it wouldn’t hurt to have it installed once it be comes available. You know, just in case. The whole idea may seem like a big gimmick at the moment, but it’s hard to say it’s not at least intriguing.

As Google’s OS infiltrates more and more mobile devices by the day, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we may one day find it in something like computers. We’ll have to see how BlueStacks works in the real world, but there’s a good chunk of promise following the project.

Would you be interested in running Android apps on your PC?
