The Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread-based custom ROM, CyanogenMod 7, has officially gone final with its newest, stable release. The team behind CyanogenMod has been working tirelessly to get a stable build of this Gingerbread-based ROM out to the community, and with support of over 30 devices out of the gate, they’ve done just that.
The stable version still may not be perfect, as Cyanogen himself tweeted just that, but the ROM is easily ready for daily use. An incremental update will likely follow this release, much like CyanogenMod 6, in the form of version 7.1. Nonetheless, the latest update should give users a taste of Gingerbread that they would otherwise have to wait months to receive officially from their manufacturer and carrier of choice.
CyanogenMod 7 now has a good amount of tablet support, and this release even has a stable build out there for the ViewSonic G-Tablet, making the somewhat unloved tablet a new forced to be reckoned with from a software point of view. The NOOKcolor has also seen a stable release grace its presence, and hopefully more tablet support will follow soon.
We can expect a few more tweaks to this ROM coming our way in the following weeks, but it’s good to see that most of the work has been finished, making way for new projects. Google I/O is just about a month away, and soon the CyanogenMod team may have something else to work on very soon, like Ice Cream.
The easiest way to grab the latest build is through ROM Manager, as it’ll do most of the work for you when it comes to installing. If you want to manually install CM7 yourself, you can hit up the mirrors page on the website.
As always, a big thanks to all of the developers behind this project. They all working very hard to bring us CyanogenMod, so show some love. (Donations are the best way to show that love).
