Libyan rebels hijack mobile network

In a bit of badass news of the week, it appears that the Libyan rebels have been able to get back some of the nation’s mobile network by hijacking equipment and using improvised methods.

As you know, Libya is in the midst of turmoil and a semi-Civil War and the government has turned off the mobile networks in order to quell rebellions. Reports from the Telegraph lay out how rebels got some communication back:

Authorities in eastern Libya are also reportedly using their improvised mobile communications to forge international links as they seek to galvanize support for their war against Colonel Gaddafi.

Ousama Abushagur, a telecoms executive based in Abu Dhabi, masterminded the network on an airline napkin, and organised diplomatic and financial support from the Qatari and UAE governments, according to the Wall Street Journal.

I’m not going to rehash it too much, as you should read the whole tale at the via link below. It’s worth your time.
