Just can’t wait for the HTC EVO 3D for Sprint, and looking for a WiMAX-toting Android phone sooner rather than later? Well, luckily for you, the Sprint Nexus S 4G is now up for pre-order at Best Buy!
With the exception of the 4G radio and being on Sprint, there’s virtually nothing differentiating the existing T-Mobile model and this new one. While we’re glad to see this Nexus device actually make it to another carrier in the US officially, it does remind us of when T-Mobile launched the Galaxy S 4G, which is essentially the Samsung Vibrant with a 4G HSPA+ radio. Why carriers throw in a better radio in a handset and call it a new phone is beyond us. Still, the WiMAX Nexus S is everything we had hoped for with the initial release, so there’s little to complain about.
The handset will run you $199 on a new two-year contract; your standard smartphone affair. You’ll get it in the mail sometime between the 18th and 21st of April, supposedly. While there’s no official announcement as to when the handset will officially drop, it’s trip to the FCC yesterday, and today’s new pre-order, suggests that the launch can’t be far off now.
The handset delivers a pure Google experience, and as such, will be (theoretically, at least) able to receive Android OS updates more frequently than most other devices out there. It may not be the fastest phone around, but it’s still a solid device, despite its single-core CPU. The Hummingbird processor is quite snappy and handles graphics better many handsets, according to benchmarks. This may not be enough to sway those looking for some sort of dual-core innards in their next handset, but the Nexus S 4G should certainly please many people who aren’t tied up on specs.
If you’re looking to grab the Nexus S 4G from Sprint, get over to the Best Buy pre-order page and claim yours now.
