Microsoft spent this morning talking about Windows Phone during its MIX 11 developers conference. We have already covered the new developer tools and some changes to the Windows Phone Mango update, but now we are going to focus on some of the hot new apps slated to land on Windows Phone in the coming months.
According to Microsoft, Windows Phone now boasts of 13,000 applications in its MarketPlace. This number pales in comparison to iOS and Android which both number in the hundred of thousands, but this 10K+ figure is impressive for a mobile platform that is a little over six months old.
This 13K figure will continue to grow as Microsoft is adding titles at a rate of 1,500 per month. In the near future,Microsoft will be adding high-profile applications like Skype, Spotify, Layar, and Qantas Airways to its app catalog. The ever-popular Plants versus Zombies game is also on tap for Windows Phone 7 as well as Angry Birds which will land on May 25th. If you don’t like waiting for your games, then you can check out Harbor Master and Centipede both of which will recently made their debut in the Marketplace.
