Virgin Mobile users who are looking to go green with their next handset purchase shouldn’t have to look any further than the upcoming Samsung Restore. With over 80% of the handset made of recyclable materials, it may be just what the eco-conscious folks out there need out of a phone.
The QWERTY-slider is your run of the mill messaging phone, but there was a good amount of work into the handset to make it so eco-friendly. Even the packaging of the handset is 100% recycled material, with 50% less plastic than previous handset packaging. I think I can hear Portland, Oregon crying tears of joy right now.
You’ll find a 4 row keyboard on the device, accompanied by a 2 megapixel camera, and a microSD card slot for playing your media that supports up to 32GB. The Restore also has a 1.4 x 1.9 inch display, with a paltry resolution of 240 x 320, but what else would we expect from a handset of this kind? Exactly. Nonetheless, the keyboard on the handset looks quite usable, and typing with it looks like you’ll be able to bang out messages and emails with no problems.
The Restore provides shortcuts to your favorite social-networking mobile sites like Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace so you can keep up with them on the go. You’ll also get Gmail, AOL, and Hotmail access for email, as well as Google Maps and Virgin Navigator support to get you where you need to go.
Other than that, there’s little to get excited about for this phone. If you want to do your part by going green with your next handset purchase, the Restore may be just what the doctor ordered. However, if you want your phone to… do stuff, then you may want to sit this one out for now. Nonetheless, this looks like a solid messaging phone that may appeal to others, even without caring that it’s so eco-friendly.
We’re going to go out on a limb and say that this handset won’t cost you much, so if you’re looking for a decent messaging phone that does just that, look for the Restore when it hits Virgin Mobile.
