LG E700 set to be the first Windows Phone to come with Mango preinstalled?

Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system is due to get an upgrade later this year called “Mango”. Among the many features, the two that stand out are an improved web browser that’s built with the same engine that powers Internet Explorer 9, and multitasking, which should have been in the platform since day one. While all Windows Phones on the market will eventually get the Mago update, in much the same way that the most recent models of the Apple iPhone get the latest version of iOS, we’re still wondering about what sort of devices will be first to market with the latest version of Microsoft’s OS already installed? According to an XML file that was leaked, LG is working on a device called the E700 that shows the built in browser as IE9. Put one and one together and it’s safe to say that the E700 may very well be the first Windows Phone with Mango. LG was one of the first handset makers to release a Windows Phone device, and they’ve repeatedly stated that they’re committed to Microsoft.

Analysts have setup some pretty lofty expectations for Windows Phone. Some think it may overtake iOS and become the second most popular mobile operating system, right behind Android. It’s difficult to make that sort of prediction when the OS is barely half a year old, and we’ve still yet to see what Nokia will do in terms of bringing appealing devices to market. Both Google and Apple are due to show off the latest versions of their respective operating systems over the next 2 months, so all eyes will be on them, while Microsoft’s engineers will have to work double time at getting their OS to feature parity and even surpassing the competition in some areas.

Can it be done? Let’s wait and see.
