We’ve already seen what the iPad 2 is capable of when you connect it to an HDTV and that’s why today’s news from Firemint has gotten us all excited. They’ve released a new update for Real Racing 2 HD that will allow you to play the game on your HDTV at 1080p. If you aren’t a tech guru and don’t know what that means, it means that Real Racing 2 HD will look really, really good when you connect it to your HDTV.
Real Racing 2 HD will perform at 30 frames per second at a resolution of 1920 x 1080 when connected to an HDTV. Your HDTV set will display the race in all of its 1080p sexiness, while your iPad will become a real-time telemetry will give the player important information such as race position, speed, and lap time. And if for some strange reason you need to leave your house while you’re in the middle of a game to rescue puppies or something, you can just disconnect the game from your HDTV and the game will resume from where you left off. Then, once those adorable puppies are all safe and sound, you can come home with the stink of success and reconnect your iPad to your HDTV and you’ll be back to racing in no time. That is, unless more puppies need saving.
This update is a step in the right direction for all iOS games to be taken more serious to give an experience just as good as dedicated home consoles. There are some games on the PS3 & Xbox 360 that don’t even offer true 1080p support, and don’t even get me started with the Wii. A game like Real Racing 2 was already successful due to its graphics, gameplay mechanics, and online multiplayer modes, and this update for Real Racing 2 HD is the icing on an already delicious and satisfying cake. Now if there could only be a way to wirelessly transmit video from the iPad to your HDTV.
