Motorola building more Atrix-like laptop docks for the future

While the Motorola Atrix was touted as the world’s most powerful Android handset when it was released – and very quickly eclipsed given the rate at which Android devices are released – Motorola isn’t resting on its laurels. The manufacturer has promised more Atrix 4G-like devices in the future which will also be compatible with laptop docks like the one which can be purchased for the Atrix.

Motorola says:

You will see multiple devices from us in the second half launching with these capabilities, and we will expand the range of our Lapdock devices so we cover a broader price point, addressing both the enterprise premium tier as well as more consumer tiers.

But, um, we already knew this. And we also knew that Motorola has some tablets lined up to succeed the Xoom, too. At any rate, it’s nice to have a bit of confirmation of what we’ve already been told, and something nice to look forward to.

It looks like Motorola is really pushing to blur the lines between smartphones, tablets and laptops this year as each of its new devices will be capable of acting like more than just standalone devices. Interaction between smartphone and tablet is already there, but smartphones docking with and powering laptop docks via its Webtop software will become a standard capability in its new phones later this year.

Do you own an Atrix 4G and its accompanying laptop dock? If so, what has your experience been like so far? Do you use it often, or was it a one-trick pony whose usefulness and novelty died out just a few days after ownership? Let us know your thoughts!
