HTC Incredible S and Desire HD receiving Android Gingerbread OTA update

HTC is working hard to get its Android devices updated to Gingerbread as soon as possible, and the first two to see the update look to be the Desire HD and Incredible S. Starting today, the OTA roll-out will begin hitting these devices, getting them up to speed with the fast-growing OS.

We can only hope that the availability of Gingerbread for the two devices means that the US variants will also see the update soon. The Droid Incredible 2 and the Inspire 4G are virtually identical to their European counterparts (with the exception that the Incredible 2 is a CDMA phone), so HTC best be ready to deliver the goods. While we’re still not exactly  sure what version of Gingerbread the OTA will be bringing the handsets, we have our doubts that it will be the new Android 2.3.4, with its Google Talk video chat capabilities.

With the Incredible 2 just arriving on shelves last week, and the Inspire 4G still a hot handset, getting the Android 2.3.x update this soon would definitely be a great thing to hear, especially when so many handset-makers seem to have such a hard time doing so. We’ll just have to wait and see if the US versions of the Incredible S and Desire HD will be so lucky.

Even with this good news, the newly updated handsets may soon fall victim to the Android curse of using an outdated OS, as Google may announce a new version next week at the I/O conference.
