Handset makers are getting crazy about the names of their phones. Why not call one device the same across multiple markets is beyond me. Samsung is well known for this practice and now Sony Ericsson is joining the stupid trend.
Their Xperia Neo will be called Kyno in France. The name change comes after the Swedish-Japanese handset maker organized a Facebook contest inviting users to vote for the French name of Xperia Neo. At the end, users could pick between Xperia Steady and Xperia Kyno.
I guess Sony Ericsson’s marketing couldn’t envision a better thing to do. That said, maybe their next contest could be “How to call Sony Ericsson [the company] in Hungary?”
Anyway, the Xperia Neo / Kyno comes with a 3.7-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixels) touchscreen, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 8-megapixel camera with HD video recording capability, 1GHz processor, an array of sensors and a microSD slot. It will be available in France at some point in July…
