We had a cool tipster drop us some proof that the HTC EVO 3D can be preordered from Radio Shack starting today for a $50 deposit. There’s still no word on when the device will actually be released though but the preorder indicates that it won’t be too long.
The preorder is pretty cool, as the HTC EVO 3D looks to be one really hot handset. As the name indicates, you’ll be able to view glasses-free 3D content on the screen and I can tell you that it actually works – images and pictures do seem to fly out of the screen.
If you’re worried that there’s not enough 3D content to view, you can create your own with this handset. The HTC EVO 3D rocks two 5-megapixel cameras which can shoot 3D video at 720p (1080p HD 2D video) and you’ll be able to snap 3D photos, as well.
The HTC EVO 3D rocks a 4.3-inch qHD display that looks good even with the 3D turned off and it will be the first phone to launch with the dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor and this should provide some much-needed horsepower.
It’s also a 4G WiMax phone and you have all the goodies you’d expect from this class of device including WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and the latest version of HTC Sense.
The glasses-free 3D is really something that you have to see to believe but I’m still not completely sold on that as the only reason to buy a device. Luckily, this is a great all around smartphone even if it didn’t have the somewhat gimmicky 3D screen.
While there’s no exact release date yet, I would expect an early June time frame to be about right. With this and the Sensation, HTC has a nice head start on ruling the summer.
Check out our hands-on time with the latest smartphone from HTC. Thanks E. Rogues.
