Trimble, which we know for their outdoor navigation apps, acquired privately-held MyTopo based in Billings, Montana. MyTopo provides print and digital maps for outdoor enthusiasts, and Trimble’s plan is to offer MyTopo’s unique map content to launch new outdoor-centric products. At the same time, the plan is to enhance existing mobile apps like Trimble Outdoors, AllSport GPS, Geocache Navigator, Cabela’s Recon Hunt and Backpacker GPS Trails. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The great news is that new maps are already available for Trimble Outdoors users, which can get them from the dedicated website. The digital maps are available on more than 300 smartphones and feature phones that can run Trimble Outdoors mobile apps.
According to Rich Rudow (general manager for Trimble Outdoors), the acquisition of MyTopo brings “top-notch maps with unparalleled quality and rich features” to both Trimble Outdoors’ users and partners such as Cabela’s and Backpacker magazine. “We are excited to offer these unique services,” he added.
