Attention Motorola Droid Pro users: Android 2.3 Gingerbread is now officially available for your device. The Droid aimed at BlackBerry users can now take advantage of the new features that come with the latest build of Android.
Motorola Droid Pro owners may have had to wait almost a full 6 months to get the update, but it’s finally arrived. Android Gingerbread isn’t the largest update the OS has seen, but does refined the UI, giving it a more consistent look and feel throughout the OS. While we would have liked to see the handset get bumped to Android 2.3.4, 2.3.3 will have to do and it’s not like the handset could take advantage of the latest version’s video chat capabilities, anyway.
For those of you who don’t remember all that much about the Droid Pro, here’s a refresher for you. Featuring a 3.1 inch display, front-facing QWERTY keyboard, 1GHz processor, and now Android 2.3.3, Motorola’s business phone filled in a gap that some envious BlackBerry users may have been longing for.
Those who opted to grab this business-focused Android phone will be happy to hear that an update is available to them if they haven’t already done the deed. If you have yet to receive the notification, worry not. Sometimes roll outs like this can take a few days to get to all of the users. The update will also include a newer version of Motorola’s custom skin for Android, Motoblur. While we personally can’t stand the UI, the latest version is more than tolerable when you sit it next to something like the Atrix 4G.
So now that the Droid Pro users have been updated to Gingerbread, they can now join the group patiently awaiting the Ice Cream Sandwich update, which isn’t due until the fall of this year. For some perspective, Droid Pro users, the Xperia X10 for AT&T just received the Android 2.1 Eclair update.
Here’s to Motorola for updating the Droid Pro to Gingerbread. May all you phones ship with it from now on, please.
