Samsung is finally addressing the Mac community. Up until now, Mac users had to run Samsung Kies via BootCamp (or some other software that enables Windows apps) to be able to manage their Samsung smartphones. You may think there’s no need to manage files and apps on an Android smartphones on your computer when you have a cloud and I do agree with that to some extent — personally I rarely connect my phone to a PC. However, the problem may occur when you want to update the phone. In some instances, Samsung has released firmware updates only via Kies or at least made them available via Kies way before the OTA update was launched. It goes without saying – when there’s a new firmware available, you do want to have it installed on your phone as soon as you can.
That said we’re glad to see the Korean giant releasing Samsung Kies for Mac. Still in beta, the software supports a limited number of devices, including the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab. We’re sure more phones and tablets will be added in the near future, but in the meantime if you’re in the “affected group” – you can grab Kies for your Apple computer from here. It should serve you well, or so we hope. 😉
