Cell phone service providers know not everyone has Bill Gates’ kind of money and we can’t always afford that $600+ price tag for those premium phones we love so much. Knowing that, companies get mid-range devices, like this newly-rumored Samsung Conquer 4G, to fill the gap. The Android-powered device pictured above is supposedly destined for Sprint’s WiMAX network. The phone is basically a watered down EVO Shift 4G that’s supposed to be priced at under $100 with a two-year contract.
Now, knowing the price, the phone’s specs are actually pretty decent for what you would be paying. The phone comes with Android 2.X, though there’s no word as to which version (but most likely Gingerbread). Other features include a 1 GHz processor that’s probably the same one as on the other Galaxy line of Samsung phones. The front screen resolution is 320 x 480 HVGA – down from the usual WVGA. The leaked information did not include mention LCD or Super AMOLED display technology and we aren’t sure on the screen size either. On the upside, there is a 3.1 megapixel camera on the back that’s ready to take some nice Facebook pictures on the go, and also a VGA front facing camera if you’re in the mood for a video call. Like the EVO Shift 4G, this has a keyboard and WiMAX support, which are both strong selling points.
This summer is already looking like a big season for Sprint and other carriers in the US. Phones are just falling out the sky for them; the EVO 3D is scheduled for sometime this month for Sprint, and now this phone is also on the way. One thing is for sure: their subscribers are certainly not going to be lacking in choice. There’s no info on a release date, but is anyone here interested in nabbing the Conquer?
