Seesmic shuts down BlackBerry development – Trouble ahead for RIM?

I have some bad news if you’re using the Seesmic app on BlackBerry, as the company will soon stop supporting the app in favor of other platforms. This can’t be a good sign for Research In Motion and its goal of attracting and keeping developers.

On its blog, Seesmic is short and to the point:

Effective June 30th, Seesmic will discontinue support for Blackberry in order to focus development efforts on our most popular mobile platforms: Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7.

Look, Seesmic for BlackBerry was a great way to keep track of your Twitter and Facebook streams but it leaving BlackBerry isn’t going to stop the earth from spinning. It still isn’t a good sign though, as RIM still can’t figure out how to solve its developer problem. Perhaps that issue will be solved once and for all once QNX gets Android apps but it will still take a long time for that platform to come to RIM phones.
