Microsoft continues to drip out information about new features with the upcoming Windows Phone Mango update and it is now telling us that this software update will include custom ringtones.
I know, some of you may be saying, “So what?” but the lack of custom ringtones on Windows Phone has been a pain in the you know what. Windows Phone Mango will let you create your own 39-second ringtones from any of your files, so you can have your hip songs be your ringtone in a few minutes.
That’s not it though, as another exciting part of Windows Phone Mango is that it wil be opening up the app marketplace to a new wave of apps. What could this include? Well, the company said:
Well, imagine you’ve downloaded a voice recording app for capturing your baby’s giggles or your best friend’s comic outbursts. Come this fall, you might see a new Save as Ringtone option in the app that turns that sound into a unique ring.
That’s just one possibility. In Mango, any Marketplace app that revolves around sound or music—karaoke apps, sound effect apps, DJ apps, music instrument apps—potentially become a source of new custom ringtones for your phone.
The Windows Phone Mango software is shaping up to be some exciting stuff and we can’t wait to get our hands on it with some new hardware.
