We’ve talked about MobilePayUSA in the past. Basically what they try to do is make mobile Point-Of-Sale (POS) payments mainstream, requiring no special handsets with NFC capabilities. As a matter of fact, the company says their solution is even more secure than existing NFC payment schemes, because credit card data is not stored on the phone or on the merchant’s servers. Rather, MobilePayUSA partner TrustCommerce does that part, making it a lot hard for hackers to “do their thing.”
What’s more, MobilePayUSA wallet will go beyond credit cards, accepting debit cards, store credits, gift cards or virtual currency. Coupons are also supported by the solution and loyalty is automatically tracked when payment is made. Plus an API is/will be available for developers to build on top of MobilePayUSA’s platform.
Now the rollout plan. The company is working with POS solution provider Revention to bring mobile payments to a number of companies across the country. Flippin’ Pizza of San Diego, California will be the first restaurant to use MobilePayUSA through Revention. Furthermore, a private beta in Orange and San Diego counties will begin July 2011 with Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt (Balboa Island, CA) and Flippin’ Pizza (Carlsbad, CA) participating.
We’re all looking forward to see mobile payments hitting the mainstream consumer. What MobilePayUSA is offering sounds cool and I can only hope customers and merchants will like it, too. We’ll see…
