Motorola has just released a handset for China Mobile, the MT870, that’s special because it’s the first dual core smartphone to be able to use TD-SCDMA, otherwise known as the Chinese version of 3G that was invented because they (the Chinese) don’t want to pay to use wireless patents. Networking technology aside, here’s what we like about the MT870: it’s got a 4 inch screen with a crystal clear resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, it packs an NVIDIA Tegra 2 clocked at 1 GHz that’s paired up with 512 MB of RAM, there’s an 8 megapixel camera on the rear that can capture 720p video, a front facing camera that will offer you video calling at VGA resolution, all the wireless radios you’d expect a device this high end to have, and a massive 1880 mAh battery. Oh and it runs Android 2.3.3 with a new skin that we haven’t seen before, but possibly one that was made specifically to China Mobile’s specifications. It’s not even that expensive, 500 Euros or roughly $700, which is what you’d expect to pay for a device of this caliber.
The only thing we can think of that comes close to this thing is the HTC Sensation, which has a larger 4.3 inch screen, the ability to capture 1080p video, and a slightly faster 1.2 GHz processor. The fact that the MT870 uses a smaller screen is enough for us to prefer it to the Sensation, that and HTC Sense makes everyone at the IntoMobile office vomit a little in their mouth. We hope Motorola is smart enough to bring this bad boy over to American shores, hopefully in a less flamboyant color, and with an unlocked bootloader so we can rid ourselves of MotoBLUR should they decide to moleste our design senses with their interpretation of what is a good user experience.
What say you, you want this or something else?
