Toshiba Thrive spotted at Best Buy store in Austin, Texas

I wouldn’t actually describe the Toshiba Thrive as one of the most anticipated tablets, but it’s good thing to see the Japanese company keeping up with the schedule to release its product during the month of July. The rumor is that Toshiba’s baby will start selling on July 10th, though we don’t have a press release to back that claim. What we do have, however, is the image above which was taken at a Best Buy store in Austin, Texas. The guy who snapped it spotted the Thrive sitting in a corner and managed to spend some time testing it out. Best Buy’s sales person claimed that more tablets are in stock and could be purchased right on the spot.

Best Buy is said to offer the 16GB version for $479.99, and there are other reports claiming that 32GB model will go for $579. Not sure I like the price, considering all other options such as the Apple iPad, Asus Transformer and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. What do you say?

I don’t mind the price, considering the extras. The guts are the same, but the ports on the Toshiba are what impress me – full size HDMI, USB, and even miniUSB? That’s quite an impressive array, especially when you consider that the other tablets on the market require proprietary (or at least rare) plugs for pretty much any activity.

Otherwise, it’s the same – 1.2GHz dual-core, blah blah blah.

I happened to be in Pittsburgh for a few days and I called Best Buy in North HIlls and they have the Thrive in stock, but they won’t sell it to me. I spoke with someone on the phone and they said yes we have them, come on in, so I drove 40 minutes and got there and they were all like we don’t have them, oh we do have them, oh we can’t sell them, what is the release date? Thanks Best Buy for wasting my time once again and denying me of my early adopter street cred. I had a whole unboxing planned and you really messed me up. Thanks for cementing that Amazon will be getting my business once again from you blue shirts. @matthew_harris:twitter
