Orange UK has teamed-up with Microsoft to offer free apps to its Windows Phone 7 users. Both pay-as-you-go and monthly paying customers will benefit from this offer, which will see the two companies giving away apps worth 70 GBP in July.
Selected applications, ranging from travel to sports to games, will be offered through Orange Selects channel in Windows Marketplace. Orange will create the initial list of apps and then allow users to vote for the apps they would like to have the most.
“By offering a selection of the most popular apps for free, we hope to continue to enhance our customers’ Smartphone experience by allowing them to try something new,” Neil Holroyd, senior multimedia product manager at Everything Everywhere (parent company of Orange UK) said in a statement.
Personally, I think this is part of Microsoft’s campaign to push the usage of Windows Phone apps and in that sense I wouldn’t be surprised similar deals will be repeated throughout the world.
