The much-anticipated Toshiba Thrive 3.1 Android tablet will be available to purchase from Best Buy July 10.
The news comes from Best Buy, as I’m still waiting on official word from Toshiba but it looks like you’ll be able to head to the electronics store on Sunday to plunk down some cash for the tablet. You actually won’t have to bring too much cash with you, as the Toshiba Thrive Android 3.1 tablet will cost $479.99 with 16 GB and the 32 GB model will cost $579.99. An 8 GB model for $429 is also expected to be available but it’s unclear if this will be at all stores or limited to Best Buy’s website.
What’s the big deal? Well, the Toshiba Thrive Android 3.1 tablet is powered by the dual-core Tegra 2 chip, sports a 10.1-inch display, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Along with the latest version of the tablet-optimized Android, one of the really cool things about this tablet is that it will come with some full-sized ports (USB, HDMI), removable battery and a swappable back cover.
The Toshiba Thrive Android 3.1 tablet is going to be facing some stiff competition in the tablet market, as it comes out roughly a week after the much-hyped HP TouchPad. It will also have to try and compete against the wave of Honeycomb devices coming out, not to mention the super-popular Apple iPad 2. Still, I believe its full-sized ports and attractive design will allow Toshiba to have a modest hit on its hands.
