research2guidance: Mobile app development market to grow to $100 billion in 2015

The research company research2guidance has some interesting figures to report on the mobile app market. According to them, the development service market today is currently twice as big as the app download market. What’s more, this market — which includes application creation, management, distribution and extension services — will grow in value to $100 billion in 2015.

Don’t say you’re surprised, with all of the free apps popping across major app stores. However that’s still impressive, considering it’s only been a year and a half since Apple launched its App Store, effectively opening up the flood gates.

research2guidance goes on suggesting that the number of applications developed by third party developers represents 66% of all applications. Moreover, this share will increase over the next years as more and more companies want to publish applications but don’t have the resources in-house.

It’s interesting that most developers started out as publishers, but the increased level of competition in the main app stores, along with high failure rates, made them [application developers] alter their business model, concentrating on developing apps for other companies, instead…
