Walk into any phone shop and you’ll be faced with identical slabs of glass from every handset maker on the planet. Kind of boring, right? With the exception of Nokia, and most obviously Research in Motion, nearly no one else even bothers to launch devices with a physical QWERTY keyboard anymore. They might do one or two per year, but for the most part you’re kind of screwed if you’re the type who likes to hit little plastic buttons while vomiting out what’s on your mind to your Twitter followers. Enter the LG Optimus Pro C660, which looks like a clone of Motorola’s Droid Pro and the Samsung Replenish, the former on Verizon, the latter on Sprint. It’s said to be coming to the Italian market “soon” for roughly 170 Euros, which is less than $250. It’ll come with a 2.8 inch screen that sadly has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, 3 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, but no 3G. What processor is onboard and how much RAM is in there? We don’t know, but we do know it’ll run Android 2.3, so at least you get a modern version of Google’s operating system.

If you really need a keyboard, then we can’t recommend this thing. That screen resolution is just abysmal for running Android. Instead you should consider the recently launched HTC ChaCha, which goes under various names, such as the HTC Status on AT&T. Yes, the Facebook button on the bottom makes it look like a gimmicky piece of garbage, and whoever in the design department decided to do that should be fired, but it has a 2.6 inch display that features a landscape 480 x 320 pixel resolution. It also has an improved 5 megapixel camera, as well as 3G connectivity. We haven’t played with either of these devices, but based on the on spec sheet alone we’d recommend the HTC over the LG Optimus Pro C660.
