HTC first said the Desire won’t get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update only to change its mind soon afterwards. We guess it was the angry Desire owners who made the Taiwanese company flip-flop and prepare the Gingerbread treatment for its once flagship Android smartphone.
The day is approaching with HTC turning to Facebook to announce they have good news about the “build of Gingerbread for Desire.” Apparently the testing has gone well and the roll-out is set to begin by the end of July.
Nothing too precise, but good enough (as far as I can tell). In any case, your Desire should be able to run Android 2.3 in 2-3 weeks. I guess HTC is talking about the unlocked version of the device, and those of you with a carrier-branded Desire will have to wait a little longer. Not sure how much longer, though. On the other hand, you can always root your phone and make it unofficially run Gingerbread. 😉
