HTC Desire Z getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update “in the coming weeks”

If the original Desire can get the Gingerbread treatment so can the Desire Z. HTC said that the QWERTY keyboard-equipped Android smartphone will soon get the same update its other smartphones already got or will get in the near future. Here’s what they said:

Thanks to everyone who’s been patiently waiting for the Gingerbread update for Desire Z. We are in the last stages of testing and plan to start rolling out the update over the air in the coming weeks. It may take a little time to reach all of you across every network but it should have reached everyone by the end of the month.

I assume HTC is talking about the original Desire Z and that the carrier-branded versions will follow soon afterwards. At least that was usually the case so far and I see no reason why anyone would break the tradition now. And besides, mobile operators like to test the software before releasing it to its customers. Can’t wait…
