I’m not sure why it took so long for T-Mobile UK to finally launch the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the original Samsung Galaxy S. I know carriers like to test firmware updates thoroughly, but I don’t think that’s the excuse. Especially when we know that AT&T’s version of the device (Samsung Captivate) and Sprint’s Samsung Epic 4G already got the same treatment. What’s more, we know that the Android 2.3.4 is in works for unlocked Galaxy S.
Here’s what T-Mobile UK said at its forums:
We can confirm that Gingerbread is now available for T-Mobile branded Samsung Galaxy S handsets.
So if you still haven’t rooted your Galaxy S, check for updates and take it from there. It should be easy to proceed though we advise you to be connected on some Wi-Fi hotspot to make download faster. Moreover, make sure your basic PIM data like contacts and calendars are safely backed up either on your computer or in the cloud, just in case something goes wrong…
