Got yourself a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S 2 and you’re not in love with the latest version of TouchWiz, as superior as it is to previous versions? Well, we can’t blame you. The Galaxy S 2 is itself is still relatively new and there are already a handful of custom ROMs you can load up on the device but CyanogenMod 7 isn’t one of them. That may soon change in the very near future, as there’s a video floating around the net showing the popular custom ROM on the very popular handset.
Nightly ROMs are experimental builds that are mostly broken but have more tweaks throughout, allowing users to get a taste of what’s to come in future release candidate builds. That said, more often than not, nightly builds are frustrating to use since bugs are found virtually everywhere. That said, if you’ve been installing custom ROMs on your Android phone, Galaxy S 2 or not, you may have experienced the issues that can tag along to experimental builds such as the one in the video below.
Even though nightly builds are unstable for the most part, you certainly wouldn’t notice just by watching the video below. CyanogenMod 7 looks to run very fast without a hitch on the handset and we can only hope these nightly builds will soon be released for users. The video doesn’t necessarily go through everything on the phone, like the browser, but from the looks of it the nightly build looks very usable.
Samsung Mobile sent the CyanogenMod team a Galaxy S 2 of their own to get cracking at the custom ROM – something you don’t see every day. At least Sammy is trying to make the Android community happy, and we hope to see other handset-makers follow suit but we’d settle for not locking handset bootloaders to begin with, if anything.
