The HTC EVO 3D has been quite a hit for Sprint in the U.S., but it looks like Vodafone UK users won’t ever know the pleasure. AndroidCommunity was able to confirm with Vodafone that delays in availability have ultimately cost HTC its place with the carrier.
Speaking to a Vodafone spokesperson today, Android Community was told that the carrier had decided that, given the devices it currently offers and those it has in the pipeline, and that “due to delays to the launch of the device” it felt the EVO 3D was no longer required.
The Android device is one of the first to have dual-cameras set up for 3D video and still photo capture. It also has a glasses-free 3D display, so users can view their 3D content right on the phone. The HTC EVO 3D has a dual-core processor and runs Google’s Android operating system and is skinned with HTC’s Sense 3.0 UI, which is a very sexy update to the interface.
For users who signed up for Vodafone notifications regarding HTC EVO 3D availability, the carrier will be sending out notices regarding its intent to drop the smartphone from its future line-up: “We realise this will come as a disappointment to some people but we already offer some fantastic phones, like the HTC Sensation and Galaxy S2, with some really exciting handsets in the pipeline” the Vodafone spokesperson told us, “and we’ll continue to focus on bringing the latest and greatest smartphones to Vodafone customers.”
It’s a little bold for a carrier like Vodafone to say that a phone is “no longer required” in order to keep its smartphone portfolio strong, but I can also understand the frustration of being hit with constant delays. So if you’re a Vodafone user waiting for the HTC EVO 3D, sorry to burst your bubble, but apparently there are still some solid contenders in terms of Android devices in your future.
