Sony Ericsson released small firmware updates for two of its smartphones – Xperia Arc and Xperia Play. It’s not the Android core update — two phones will keep running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread — rather it will affect Sony Ericsson’s own software that runs on top of Google’s mobile OS. More precisely, once your phones get this firmware treatment, you may notice the following:
- xLoud – which boosts your music when played through the speaker
- Stereo recording – allows for shooting of video with stereo sound
- Digital home – beams content to DLNA certified media devices
- New themes
- Landscape mode for home screen
Aside from the Xperia Arc and Xperia Play, more phones will get this update too, most notably – Xperia Ray which will come with these changes implemented out of box.
Finally, you shouldn’t worry if your phone still doesn’t inform you about the new software version – it will be available eventually as it’s usually the case with OTA updates.
