Acer has just launched the world’s first 7 inch Android Honeycomb tablet – the Acer Iconia A100. Featuring virtually everything comparable 10 inch Honeycomb tablets offer, only in a smaller and cheaper package, Acer may have quite a hit on its hands.
The Acer Iconia Tab 100 comes with all the features you’d expect in a high-end 10-inch Honeycomb tablet, but sheds a couple of inches and ounces, making it a much more portable device. Shipping with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, just because the Iconia 100 is a smaller tablet certainly doesn’t make it any less powerful. The 7 inch display (1024 x 600) is crisp and clear, and offers up some great viewing angles.
You’ll find all the features you’d expect or a tablet of its caliber, including a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and more. Weighing less than a pound, and only half an inch thick, this tablet definitely won’t be weighing you down.
The tablet is one of the few Honeycomb tablets to ship with Android 3.2, which brings support for multiple screen sizes and should make more applications scale well on the tablet. The Acer Iconia 100 almost makes all other 7 inch tablets obsolete. Well, maybe not, but if you’re looking for a 7 inch tablet at all, the Iconia 100 should be number one on your list. With other 7 inchers like the HTC Flyer and original Galaxy Tab running older versions of the Android OS, the choice should be rather simple.
