A leaked CostCo memo has revealed that T-Mobile will be launching the BlackBerry Curve 9360 on September 14. Even though it’s a lower-end device than the recently-announced Bold 9900, it’s just as likely to get NFC and mobile hotspot capabilities.
Based on what we’ve heard, the BlackBerry Curve 9360 should have a 480 x 360 display (with a touchscreen version launched a bit later), 800 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. That’s all much better than its predecessor, the Curve 9300, but not quite up to the specs of the new devices. Of course, that means the 9360 will be more geared to the entry-level smartphone tier, and thus cheaper than the others.
T-Mobile was the only one missing from that big roadmap leak a few weeks ago, so it’s good to get some more info on their upcoming BlackBerry launches. Beyond this, we’re also waiting to hear more about the Bold 9790, as well as any particulars about a Torch 9810 or Torch 9860 launch (if there are any to be had). The launch date falls closely in line with Verizon’s expected 9360 unveiling, while Sprint’s not expected to get theirs until October, and AT&T until January.
While RIM’s latest batch of OS 7 devices might not be able to compete with the feature set of Android or iOS phones, devices like the Curve 9360 may very well be able to beat them on bang for buck. What would you rather get – an 8-month-old Android phone for $100 on contract, or a brand new BlackBerry?
