On the heels of the Garmin software announcement, we have another navigation company unveiling the updated offering. It’s NAVIGON, which is owned by Garmin and which unveiled few details about its upcoming apps for iPhone and Android smartphones. The new applications, set to be released later this fall, rock several neat features, including:
- New map management and update capabilities – allowing users to pre-load only portion of the maps they’ll actually use, freeing-up the space for other things. In addition, NAVIGON FreshMaps offers quarterly map updates.
- Simplified UI – which promises to make access to all NAVIGON features easier. For instance, users will be able to switch between different pages with animated menus and new multi-touch user gestures. Moreover, map rotation and zooming will be possible in any direction when in 3D mode, as well as the ability to tap points of interest on a map to instantly add them to the route.
- Integration with Zagat’s ratings and reviews as an in-app purchase.
- Cockpit function that displays real-time driving data for enthusiasts to monitor driving behaviors.
Finally, NAVIGON also announced Windows Phone 7 app which will be released later this year…
