MeeGo fans in Australia will be able to try out the Nokia N9 at some point in October. The Finnish giant has struck a deal with all big operators in the country — including Optus, Telstra and Vodafone — as well as major retailers. The unlocked device will come in black, blue and pink with a RRP of AU$799, which is about $[CENA].
If you recall, the N9 comes with a 3.9-inch AMOLED ClearBlack display, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 1GHz single-core processor, NFC capability, GPS, Bluetooth, and a ton of built-in storage. What’s especially interesting is that it doesn’t have a single button on the front, featuring the so called “touch and swipe” interface instead. There are three screens to browse – one for apps, one for social networking and one that shows which applications are open (task manager).
Despite the fact that Nokia isn’t fully committed to MeeGo, something tells me they may actually succeed with the N9… if the price drops a bit (and it should)…
