Nexus S getting Android 2.3.6 update as we speak; Kills tethering

Almost missed this… Google Nexus S is getting the Android 2.3.6 update as we speak. As far as we’ve heard, this software release will fix the annoying voice search bug that almost randomly activates the capability while you’re in other apps. However, some users reported it [the new update] didn’t work for them. What’s more, this firmware kills Wi-Fi and USB tethering.

In other words, if you don’t have a problem with random voice search activations (cause not all users had this problem), make sure to SKIP this update. I’m sure Google is listening to the community and will soon release another firmware version, which you DO want to grab (presuming that one doesn’t kill tethering).

Of course, since this is the over-the-air update you may haven’t seen it at all. Lucky you, cause you would certainly be tempted to “push the button.” We’ll be following the Nexus S saga and let you know when the “real deal” is out. Stay tuned…

I was wondering why I couldn’t connect my laptop via Wi-Fi or USB tethering. I can admit that my ability to tether is not working with my Telus Nexus S phone.

Broken tethering and my phone continues to get the phantom “voice search” popups after installing 2.3.6.  Nexus S on Telus.

I am so annoyed about this as I use tethering EVERY single day.  I have been trying for 2 days to roll back to 2.3.4 but installation fails every time.  Knowing how slow Google moves their butts, this means I’ll be without tethering for a long time!!

I received this OTA update today on my NEXUS ONE. No problems with tethering so far but to be honest did not have any problem with voice search anyway.
