Fring, a mobile communication service, announced today a new feature to its group video chat product called Playgrounds, which mimics Google+’s Hangouts feature. Playgrounds lets users join an existing four-way video chat or launch their own, which is based on a topic of the creator’s choosing.
Discussing the new feature, CEO and Co-founder of Fring, Avi Shechter said “Playground Video chat empowers users to video & voice their opinions about things that matter to them. We let users do more than simply ‘follow’ their interests. Now they can actively engage with others via video chat, instead of waiting for character-constrained updates.”
I don’t know if this feature will be received well by all mobile users, but I’d say that Fring is a popular app which most users respect. This latest update without a doubt gives Fring another leg up on Skype, when it comes to group video chat, a feature Skype has been way behind on.
Fring Playgrounds is available to all fring users from the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android devices. If you like the way it was before the update, need not worry, Fring users can still use the normal group video chat function, too.
