Is that a hadouken in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me? LG will be the first to host an Android version of Capcom’s classic 2D fighter game franchise, Street Fighter. For the first three months of its launch, Street Fight IV for Android will be available exclusively through the LG World app store, though there was no mention of pricing.
Street Fighter 4 has been available for iPhone for awhile now, boasting multiplayer support, tons of new character’s through DLC purchased in-game, and all of the classic fighting action you’d come to expect. Capcom and LG are talking a lot about “HD” in the press release, which indicates that only the higher-end smartphones will be able to handle the sheer fury of Street Fighter IV.
I’m a big fan of fighting games on consoles, so having quality, established titles make the port to a platform gives me a lot of confidence for the future of smartphone gaming. It’s just too bad Nintendo doesn’t feel the same way. The game should be available in the fourth quarter, so expect it in the Android Market for everybody sometime early next year. In the meantime, be sure to check out our review of the iPhone version to get a feel for what Street Fighter IV on Android will look like.
